Closure of House C and invitation to digital meeting
Dear students, dear teachers, dear colleagues in the administration,
the presidium decided this Tuesday to close House C completely on April 1, 2025, after all departments have moved out. From that point on, it will not be available for teaching, practice or administration until the renovation is completed.
House C does not meet any of the requirements for structural and technical fire protection. This is the main reason for the upcoming renovation. The safety risk for university members makes further use irresponsible.
We had already blocked off individual rooms for the winter semester, and equipped certain doors with escape door monitors that allow for emergency opening or ensure a temporary second escape route. This allowed us to continue using the building for a limited time until the newly rented rooms in Schmidtstraße are available.
These can be used immediately. In weighing up the risks and restrictions, it is clear to us that the safety of university members is our top priority. That is why we are closing the building.
The start of the renovation of House C has been delayed because the necessary approvals have not yet been granted by the Hessian Ministry of Finance. This means that workmen are not expected on site in the coming summer semester of 2025.
We are aware that the closure poses major challenges for teaching, self-study and practice.
Alternative rooms for the HIP department have been found at Schmidtstraße 12, and other teaching will be accommodated in buildings A and B. This will lead to a denser use of space. We are currently talking to partners in the city to open up further practice opportunities outside the university.
You can view the current occupancy for the summer semester from Friday, February 21, 2025, 12 noon in ASIMUT. For some courses, we still need a few days to find a satisfactory solution. We ask for your patience in this regard.
