The first work phase of the new MA Bigband program (October 31 to November 11, 2022) will be led by the Frankfurt Radio Big Band's Composer in Residence Jim McNeely. The program includes music from the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra and its three style-defining arrangers Thad Jones, Bob Brookmeyer and Jim McNeely himself.

At the end of the work phase, there will be two concerts in which the hr-Bigband will become a hybrid ensemble: Individual members of the band will leave their place to the students.

Jim McNeely will also be giving masterclasses and (private) lessons in jazz composition and arrangement during the winter semester 22/23.

Save the date

The summer semester 2023 MA Big Band work phase will be led by percussionist and composer John Hollenbeck and will take place July 4-July 15.
