Welcome, Liza Lim!
The Australian composer, teacher, music thinker and researcher Liza Lim is coming to the HfMDK Frankfurt in 2024/25 as a guest professor of composition. And with her, her music on collaborative and transcultural themes that also place her work in a larger ecological context. Beauty, anger and noise, ecological connections and female spiritual traditions are also at the heart of Liza Lim's most recent works, which she composes on commission for the world's most important ensembles and orchestras.
In 2024, Liza Lim was named Composer of the Year by Opus Klassik. She has also won a major research grant to investigate music and cross-species justice/ecological or superhuman perception and the communication of climate science.
Lim's catalog of works ranges from solo pieces and chamber music, which are essential repertoire pieces worldwide, to five strikingly different operas. In three work phases at the HfMDK, she will primarily offer instrumental workshops. The program also includes an inaugural lecture and various discussion formats, including as part of lecture series or congresses held at the HfMDK.
