HfMDK Pop and Jazz Choir

The HfMDK Pop & Jazz Choir under the direction of Prof. Fabian Sennholz is formed by students of the HfMDK Frankfurt from all faculties. Since 2012, the choir has been presenting songs from pop, gospel and jazz and has developed an independent sound over the years - always on the lookout for new choir sounds and choreographies. Whether a capella, with beatbox and vocal bass or with virtuoso piano accompaniment: the choir is always looking for the extraordinary sound, effective arrangements and moving emotions. The repertoire consists largely of arrangements from their own ranks (by Lukas A. Schopf and Fabian Sennholz) along with some works by well-known arrangers.

As vocal coach Lisa Kühnemann accompanies the choir during the weekly rehearsals. In addition, there are regular collaborations and workshops with renowned jazz choirs and teachers from the jazz choir scene, in 2021, for example, with Felix Powroslo.

Various projects have taken the HfMDK Pop & Jazz Choir, for example, to London on a concert tour with a gospel program, to Weimar for concerts with voc.company, or to Bottrop to participate in the International Gospel Night. In addition to regular performances at the HfMDK Jazzfest "Song. Sound. Experiment.", the concert schedule also includes regular appearances in Frankfurt and the surrounding area, for example at the Advent concert of Messe Frankfurt, at the Rheingau Music Festival or at the Brotfabrik.

In May 2022, the HfMDK Pop & Jazz Choir traveled to Leipzig for the Chorfest and sang several concerts there, including in two competition categories. In the category Jazz/Pop - Level 1 the choir participated with very good success, in the category Gospel - Level 1 it even reached the 1st prize and the predicate with excellent success.
